This project on bones was completed in a bilingual school in Mexico City with children of variety of ages from 2 to 6. While the kindergarten children worked on a human body theme, the children started telling stories about their experiences with doctors and getting hurt. The expressed special interest in accidents and broken bones. Even the Principal of the school came to share how she hurt her ankle and wore an "air cast." Areas of interest and documented learning included such topics as who has bones, how to take care of our bones, the sizes of our bones, and the number of bones in a fish. The article concludes with reflections by the teacher and parents. (author/nmb) |
