In this, the tenth best practice brief in the Early Childhood Building Blocks series Pam Schiller, Early Childhood Curriculum Specialist, offers many wonderful strategies for teachers to to use as they help children understand fundamental concepts of mathematics and develop a lifelong "like," if not love, of math. Dr. Schiller, a lifelong educator and prolific author, spoke to Ohio's early childhood teachers at the 2008 Ohio Early Care and Education Conference and clearly has a passion for early childhood education. In this article she outlines important vocabulary, authentic activities, and an appropriate sequence for early math concepts. She also provides a few of the best books and resources to use with children that illustrate these concepts. (author/nmb)
