This excellent lesson plan features patterning activities based on Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See, a book with repetitions of sounds and pictures. By reading and acting out the book's story, children learn about word patterns in literature.

In this 9-lesson unit, children explore the four models of addition (counting, sets, number line, and balanced equations) using dominoes. They also learn about the order (commutative) property for addition, the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction, and the result of adding 0 (additive identity).

In this activity the children participate in the choosing, photographing, and making of environmental print "signs" for the classroom. Using photographs of real signs and other environmental print that children have seen on a trip outside of the classroom can be a great way to help them practice reading words that are familiar.
