The Resources for Early Childhood (REC) project is a collaboration between the Ohio Resource Center for Mathematics, Science, and Reading and the Ohio Department of Education's Office of Early Learning and School Readiness.

The REC website seeks to support Ohio's early childhood teachers, parents, teachers of early childhood and inclusive classroom teachers, and children by providing peer-reviewed, web-based resources to assist with instructional planning, professional learning, and the implementation of the Ohio early learning standards for mathematics, science, English language arts, and social studies. REC's instructional resources have been reviewed by at least two members of the REC Review Board using the ORC Rubric.

REC, which began serving the Ohio early learning community in July 2006, continues to grow. The home page serves as a portal to the many features you will find on the REC website. They include Early Childhood Bookshelf recommendations as well as Family Connection resources. Early Childhood Building Blocks—best-practice articles—support educators and enrich their teaching. In addition, the Inquiry Projects for Ohio's Young Learners, document the work of teams of educators from many Ohio preschools and children's centers, featuring inquiry-based projects that followed children's interests as they progressed. Be sure to investigate them all!

For more information about these and other REC projects, contact Nancy Brannon, Early Childhood Resource Specialist, at nbrannon@ohiorc.org.

Early Childhood Review Committee

The Early Childhood Committee works in similar ways to the ORC Review Boards in mathematics, science, and reading. The committee is composed of educators from around Ohio who have varied experience and expertise working with young children. This dedicated group assists in decisions regarding resource screening criteria, reviews resources for inclusion on the website, recommends new resources and features for the website, offers strategies for communicating and disseminating best practices, suggests evaluation strategies, reviews evaluation information, and provides other support for REC as needed.
